On Wednesday the 10th of June, Thomas Mulcair was interviewed on the CBC noon News concerning the Report from the Reconciliation Commission on Residential Schools. Mulcair clearly stated:
1 - That the Catholic Church has never apologized for the Residential Schools issue.
2 - That the Report was requesting the Pope come to Canada to apologize for the Catholic Church.
3 - That the Prime Minister should ask the Pope to come to Canada and apologize to Native People.
There were 80 residential schools in Canada. Half of them were run by the Anglican and United Churches and half by the Catholic Church.
Thomas Mulcair did not ask:
1. That Elizabeth ll and the Arch Bishop of Canterbury come to Canada to apologize.

Under the Title TRC Interim Report there is no Recommendation that the Pope come to Canada to apologize.
Following a visit to the Vatican by the Honorable Phil Fontaine, National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations, the Pope issued the following communique:
"Given the sufferings that some indigenous children experienced in the Canadian Residential School system, the Holy Father expressed his sorrow at the anguish caused by the deplorable conduct of some members of the Church and he offered his sympathy and prayerful solidarity. His Holiness emphasized that acts of abuse cannot be tolerated in society. He prayed that all those affected would experience healing, and he encouraged First Nations Peoples to continue to move forward with renewed hope."
The Honorable Phil Fontaine issued a public statement saying that even though the communique didn't mention the word apology, it was accepted as an apology.
**Thomas Mulcair owes an apology to 12.7 million Catholics who live in Canada!**
